Empsy Henderson Thompson, Sr., 80, of Atlanta Street, Kannapolis, NC, passed away Thursday, November 16, at CHS-NorthEast
He was born March 27, 1937 in Mecklenburg County to the late Ernest Leroy Thompson and the late Willie Ree Cunningham Thompson
Empsy was educated in the Kannapolis School System and was a graduate of G.W. Carver High School. He was a veteran of the US Army and was formerly employed by Roadway Trucking. Empsy was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Masonic Order.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 22 at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM with funeral services at 12:00. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ernest Thompson, Jr, Emma Kirkland, Mildred Ann Thompson, Betty Relford, Janice Thompson and Richard K. Thompson.
Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife, Sadie J. Thompson of the home; five sons, Marvin Thompson (Vanessa) of Virginia Beach, VA, Randy Thompson (Deborah) of Pascaqoula, MS, Eric Thompson (Trena) of Rincon, GA; Milton Thompson (Yolanda) and Empsy Thompson, Jr. (Nicole) both of Kannapolis; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nephew reared as a brother, Dr. Ernest Goodson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
