Lella Mae Frances Hood Torrence Smith, 82, of Union Heights Blvd., Salisbury, NC, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Genesis Healthcare in Salisbury, NC.
She was born April 10, 1935 in Cabarrus County to the late Louis Hood and the late Annie Montro Torrence.
“Frances,” as she was affectionately called, graduated from Aggrey Memorial High School in 1953. She received her cosmetology license from Rowan Cosmetology School and worked as a beautician for 5 years. Frances worked at Cannon Mills until she retired and returned to work for several years at Stanly Tools. Frances was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist where she served on the Usher Board, Kitchen Committee, Church Clerical Staff and was a faithful member of the Spiritual Singers until her declining health.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 6280 Pleasant Grove Church Rd, Kannapolis, NC. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Willie John Smith.
The life of Mae Frances Smith will continue to live on the lives of those she loved, such as her two daughters; Barbara (Haley) McCullough and Sheryl Smith Jones both of Salisbury, NC; two sons, Ricky (Ruthie)Smith Sr. of Sumpter, SC and Tyrone (Lani) Smith of Tucson AR ; five granddaughters; Erica (Grayland) Watson and Shaneeka Jones both of Salisbury, NC, Nancy Abrams and Tracy Abrams of Sumpter, SC and Christine Lian Smith of Tucson, AR; seven grandsons, Corry (Martaneo) Smith, Christopher (Rachel) Smith, George Jones Jr., Haley (Sharonda) Smith all of Salisbury, NC, Nathaniel (Elise) Jones Sr., of Kannapolis, NC, Ricky Smith Jr. of Austin, TX, and France Gener Smith of Tucson, AR; twenty-two great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; three aunts, Johnnie Mae Glover, Susie Mae Holtzclaw and Geraldine Clifton; A brother-n-law Tommy (Janet) Smith; A special son-n-law George Jones; Special best friends, Martha Scott and Dottie Ecpo and a special daughter Robin Patel along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
