James “Punchy” Bernard McManus, Sr., 68, of Derby Lane, NW, Concord, NC, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Atrium Health - NorthEast.
He was born October 31, 1950 in Cabarrus County, to the late Willie James Little and the late Della Little.
James was a graduate of the Cabarrus County Schools and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He served in the US Army and was formerly employed by the Department of Corrections. James was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board; he also served as past President of the NAACP, past leader of the American Legion Post, Boy Scout Leader of Troop 100, A.L. Brown Booster Club and football coach for the youth.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church 1311 E. First St., Kannapolis, NC, on Thursday, October 3. Visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 PM with funeral services at 2:00. Interment will be Friday, October 4 at 9:00 AM at the National Cemetery in Salisbury.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Bernard McManus, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Myra A. McManus of the home; two sons, Timothy L. Atwell (Allison) of Huntersville, NC, Quantres L. Grant of Durham, NC; two daughters, Lynette Wallace of Concord, Kimberlyn M. Wells of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Jayla T. McManus of Raleigh, Donovan M. Atwell of Huntersville, Joy S. Atwell of Huntersville, Carter L. Grant of Durham, Mychel Grant of Charlotte, Asia N. Pharr of Salisbury, Zamiere Graham of Greensboro; two sisters, Lyndia Diane Little (Donald) of Greenbelt, MD, Brenda Yongose (Chuck) of Kannapolis,. aunt, Leona Brayboy of Washington, DC; uncle, Conce Huntly of Washington, DC; a host of close friends he considered as brothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
