Bernard “Woogie” Leroy Lawson, 78, of Princeton Ave., Kannapolis, departed this earthly life on Friday, April 15, 2022, at the W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, NC.
He was born July 14, 1943, in Washington, DC to the late Willie Bernard Lawson and the late Elwillie Geter Lawson.
Bernard was educated in the Cabarrus County School System and was a 1961 graduate of G.W. Carver High School. He served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. Bernard was formerly employed with Sysco Foods. He was a member of Marable Memorial AME Zion Church where he served on the Usher Board and Men’s Booster.
Service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Marable Memorial AME Zion Church, 400 Huron St., Kannapolis, NC 28083. Visitation will be 2:00 PM-3:00 PM with services at 3:00 PM. The burial will be Friday, April 22, 2022, at 9:00 AM at the VA National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Orlando V. Lawson; two daughters, Vickie Moody, and Julisa Bailey Powe; one sister, Brenda Seniors.
Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife, Rev. Mildred B. Lawson of the home; two sons, Johnny Kiser (Debbie) of Kannapolis, NC, Jimmy Kiser of Concord, NC; granddaughter, Morgan Powe (reared in the home) of Suitland, MD; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; five brothers, Rev. Hezekiah Lawson (Margaret) of Salisbury, NC, Clifton Charles Lawson (Hattie) of Concord, NC, Bobby Lawson (Lisa) of Salisbury, NC, Rev. Myron Lawson (Shelby) of China Grove, NC, Earnest Lawson (Dorothy) of Kannapolis, NC; three sisters, Teresa Chambers (Richard) of Kannapolis, NC, Beatrice Patterson of Kannapolis, NC, Cynthia Lawson Wilkerson of Kannapolis, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
