Calvin Leonard Smith

Calvin Leonard “Cowboy” Smith, 64, of Bahama Drive, Kannapolis, NC, passed away on Thursday, January 19, at his residence.

He was born in Rowan County on March 4, 1958, to Lucille S. Collier and the late Clarence Leonard Smith.

Calvin was educated in the Rowan County Schools and received his diploma from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.  He was formerly employed with Carpenter Industries.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 28, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1205 S. Main St. China Grove, NC.  Visitation will be 12:00 – 1:00 PM with funeral services at 1:00.  Burial will follow at Bethesda AME Zion Church Cemetery.

In additional to his father, he was preceded in death by a baby girl, Shantelle Smith.

Those left to cherish her memories include; his wife, Charita B. Smith of the home; two daughters, Latika Miller of Columbia, SC, Whitney Blakeney of Kannapolis, NC; two sons, Derrick Miller of Concord, NC, Calvin X. Smith (Jacquelyn) of Statesville, NC; granddaughter reared in the home, Kennedi Williamson; four other grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother, Lucille Sue Collier of Salisbury, NC; four sisters, Vivian Inita Smith of Salisbury, NC, Cheryl B. Smith of Concord, NC, Nancy Renee Smith of Kannapolis, NC, Lisa Marie Smith (Eric) of Concord, NC; two brothers, Dollon Smith (Nancy) of Kannapolis, NC, Donta Wilson (Omega) of Kannapolis, NC; bonus brother, Milton Johnsons (Darlene) of Mooresville, NC; bonus sister, Linda Pollard of Alexandria VA; three brothers-in-law, David Blakeney (Ida), Charlie Blakeney, Tommie Blakeney (Karen) all of Charlotte, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
