Horton Howard Charles “Champ”, 59, of Willow Pond Lane, Concord, NC, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Atrium Health – Cabarrus.
He was born in Sumter County, SC on February 22, 1962 to the late Samuel Charles and the late Emma Howard Charles.
Horton was a graduate of Sumter High School and attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He retired from the US Army and was a member of New Life Baptist Church where he has served on the Choir and Usher Board..
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 7, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Clark Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 8, at 12:00 noon at Clark Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be Monday, May 10, at 10:00 AM at the Salisbury National Cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his birth mother, Rosa Colclough, siblings, Minnie Lee Davis, Richard Howard, Teresa Charles McFadden and Ellen Colclough and a nephew, Terry Davis..
Those left to cherish his memories include; his wife, Crystal G. Charles of the home; three sons, Horton H. Charles, Jr. (Kerri) of Seattle, WA, Caleb Phifer, Horton Phifer both of Kannapolis, NC; three daughters, Latasha Charles (Karry Gilliard), Amoni Phifer, Talasia Charles all of Kannapolis, NC; three stepsons, Terrell Bagley, Terrance Bagley, Tyreese Bagley all of Kannapolis, NC; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Cruse (Mike), Thomasina Colclough; two brothers, Donald Colclough, Alonzo “Toby” Howard; aunt, Thelma Evans; brother-in-law, Walter Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
