John Edward Gillespie, Sr.

John Edward Gillespie Sr, 69, of Filbert Street, Salisbury, NC departed this earthly life on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, Salisbury, NC.

He was born February 5, 1954, in Rowan County to John Allen Gillespie and Virginia Mae Fortune Gillespie.

John was educated in the Rowan County School System.  He was a graduate of Salisbury High School and attended Livingstone College. John served in the United States AirForce and received an Honorable Discharge. He was formerly employed with VA Medical Center. John was a member of the United House of Prayer for All People. He was also a member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge #9.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dionne Gillespie, and a sister, Brenda Fortune.

Service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at United House of Prayer for All People, 501 Old Concord Rd., Salisbury, NC 28144. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 PM with funeral services at 1:00 PM.  The burial will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 9:00 AM at National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.

Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife, Georgia R. Gillespie of Richmond, VA; four daughters, Teresa Gillespie (fiancé, Timothy) of Thomasville, NC; Jennifer Cooper, Latoya Gillespie, and Kendrea Agostinelli (Lorenzo) all of Richmond, VA; two son, John Gillespie, Jr. and Kevin Gillespie (Carmalita) both of Richmond, VA; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; parents John and Virginia Gillespie of Salisbury, NC; four brothers, James Gillespie, Robert Gillespie, Amos Gillespie, and Gerald Gillespie; two sisters, Elder Donnetta Britt of Concord, NC; Elaine Ijames of Cleveland, NC; companion, Julia Williams of the home and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
