Ruth Johnson Obituary

Ruth Ann Sherrill Johnson, 85, of Airport Road, Kannapolis, NC;  departed this earthly life  on Tuesday,  April 9, 2024 at Tucker Hospice House.

She was born May 14, 1938 in Rowan County to the late Elsworth Sherrill and the late Lucille Kesser Sherrill.

Ruth was educated in the Rowan County School System. She was a graduate of Aggrey Memorial High School and Livingstone College.  Ruth was formerly employed with the Cabarrus County School System.

Ruth was a member of Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church where she served on the Gospel Choir and Usher Board and Life Member.  She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Concord Chapter, Las Amigas, Inc. Mooresville Chapter, The Bronze Beau Social Club, Aggrey Alumnae Assoc., the Optimist Club, and the Order of Eastern Star (Morning Star). 

Services will be held Monday, April 15, 2024 at Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church, 1425 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Landis, NC. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM – 2:30 PM with service at 2:30 PM. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

In addition to her parents,’ she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherrilynn Horton; a son, Eric Sherrill; a granddaughter, Maya Sherrill; a stepson, Aaron Johnson; two brothers, Kelsey Sherrill, and Carl Avery Sherrill; one brother in-law, Arthur Johnson.

Those left to cherish fond memories include her husband, Herman Johnson of the home; one daughter, Cherelle Horton Eddleman (Rev. William) of Concord, NC; 13 grandchildren, Deon Horton (Brooke), William Eddleman, III, Charity Eddleman, Bianca Eddleman, Jasmine Eddleman Williams (Lionel), Caleb Eddleman, Trinity Eddleman, Bethany Eddleman, Destiny Eddleman Rodgers (Malcolm), Serenity Eddleman, Raven Sherrill Rodgers (Micah), Grant Sherrill, Olivia Sherrill; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Clement Sherrill (Brenda) of China Grove, NC; three stepsons, Willie Johnson (Darlene) and Terry Johnson both of Charlotte, NC, Marcus Johnson (Kathy) of Camden, SC; sister in-law, Sadie Thompson; brother in-law, Johnny Johnson (Patricia) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and  friends.
