Willie Edward Thompson, Sr., 83, of Rhode Island Avenue, Kannapolis, NC passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Cabarrus County, on May 22, 1937 to the late Wardie Thompson and the late Annie Bell Tillman Thompson.
Bill was educated in the Kannapolis City School System and a graduate of G. W. Carver High School. He served in the US Navy and the Army Reserve. Bill was formerly employed with the V.A. Medical Center and was a member of Marable Memorial AME Zion Church and the Carver Alumni Association.
Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 21 from 12:00 – 5:00 PM at Clark Funeral Home. Burial will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 10:00 AM at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Cauthen, brother, Robert Floyd Thompson and sister, Georgia Arbitman.
Those left to cherish his memory includes his two sons, Quintin Thompson (Valerie) of Randolph, NJ, Willie Thompson, Jr. (Donica) of Upper Marlboro, MD; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Wardie Leon Thompson (Marilyn) of Charlotte, NC; special friend, Thelma Lipe of Landis, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
